Joey Chestnut wins 16th Nathan’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest

Miki Sudo eats 39.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to claim ninth women’s title

NEW YORK – Joey “Jaws” Chestnut is a champion once again after winning the men’s Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest on Tuesday.

The men’s competition was delayed by bad weather Tuesday in Coney Island. but even heavy rain couldn’t stop Chestnut after he downed 62 franks and buns in 10 minutes.

The win becomes his eighth consecutive victory for the second time in his competitive eating career.

“It just felt good,” Chestnut, of Westfield, Indiana, said in an ESPN interview after his win Tuesday. “I wanted to break the record, but it just didn’t happen.”

Chestnut has consumed 1,214 hot dogs and buns since his 2005 debut, according to ESPN.

Miki Sudo, of Port Richie, put away 39.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to win the women’s competition of Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest for the ninth time Tuesday.

Sudo fell short of breaking her own record of 48.5 hot dogs and buns, which she set at the Independence Day event in 2020.

In conjunction with the spectacle, Nathan’s donates 100,000 franks to the Food Bank for New York City.
