SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. — A 5-year-old boy called 911 to report that his television wasn’t working and he needed help, so police officers responded to his apartment on Wednesday in a gated community in Miami-Dade County, records show.
Sunny Isles Beach police officers learned the boy and his sister were home alone while their mother was working, and left them with their father, according to a police officer’s report.
Police officers detained Stanley Jeanphillpe, the kids’ father, for questioning, and he said he had left to go to the library to use a printer, and walked to two stores before walking back home, according to police.
Jeanphillpe, 38, “neglected the well-being, safety, and basic supervision for his children,” a police officer wrote in the arrest report.
Sunny Isles Beach police officers arrested Jeanphillpe on Wednesday, and correctional deputies booked him early Thursday morning at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, records show.
Jeanphillpe appeared in bond court, and prosecutors filed a felony case on a charge of child neglect. A judge set his bond at $2,500.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Lody Jean was set to preside over the case.
