MIAMI — President Donald Trump used his Truth Social platform on Sunday night to endorse Miami mayoral candidate Emilio González, who then used X to express his gratitude.
González, a Republican who also has Gov. Ron DeSantis’s endorsement, is running against Eileen Higgins, a former Miami-Dade County commissioner, in the runoff election on Dec. 9.
“Thank you President Donald J. Trump for your endorsement,” González wrote on X. “Miami’s future is on the line, and your support sends a powerful message that our city deserves strong, common-sense leadership.”
Trump described González as a “very successful” businessman, civic leader, “former CEO” of Miami International Airport, and former city manager and chief administrative officer of the city.
González received 19% of the total votes on the Nov. 4 nonpartisan election, which included Higgins and 11 other candidates. Higgins, a Democrat, had 36% of the total votes. Ken Russel, a Democrat and former Miami commissioner, followed with 18% of the votes.
Republicans Joe Carollo, a former Miami commissioner and mayor, Alex Diaz de la Portilla, a former Miami commissioner, and Xavier Suarez, a former Miami mayor, had 21% of the votes. Carollo had 11%, Diaz de la Portilla had 5% and Suarez had 5%.
González “will fight tirelessly to Grow the Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Advance MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our now very Secure Border, SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, and Defend our always under siege Second Amendment,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Early voting starts Dec. 5.
“GET OUT AND VOTE FOR EMILIO,” Trump wrote. “HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”
