Crash shuts down Florida Turnpike near Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — The southbound lanes of the Florida Turnpike were closed near Sunrise Boulevard after a crash on Thursday in Broward County.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers, Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies, and fire rescue personnel responded to the crash.

“Southbound traffic is being diverted off at Sunrise Boulevard,” FHP Lt. Indiana Miranda said in a statement. “Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes by exiting earlier at Commercial Boulevard or avoiding the Turnpike entirely. Drivers may re-enter the Turnpike south of I-595.”

Shortly after 5:05 p.m., fire rescue personnel and law enforcement helped a person to get out of the back of a marked patrol car, onto a gurney, and into an ambulance.

According to the Coconut Creek Police Department, a vehicle struck a police car, and the officer was not injured.
