DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — One person was killed and four people were injured, including three children, Saturday night in a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle in Deerfield Beach, authorities said.
According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, multiple people called 911 around 8:30 p.m. to report the crash in the 4000 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard.
Fire rescue crews arrived to find an overturned vehicle and multiple critically injured patients, they said.
According to first responders, due to the severity of the crash, incident commanders declared a “Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident,” prompting additional fire rescue and transport units to respond.
Coconut Creek Fire Rescue also assisted at the scene.
Authorities said three pediatric patients were transported as “Level 1 trauma alerts.”
“One required ongoing resuscitative care and was transported by ground to Broward Health Medical Center,” BSFR officials told Local 10 News in an email. “Of the two other pediatric patients, one was transported by air.”
Officials confirmed that a fourth person was injured and one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the person who died or the three injured children.
Drivers were warned to expect traffic disruptions along West Hillsboro Boulevard as the investigation into the crash continues.
