FLORIDA CITY, Fla. — A former Florida City police officer was arrested this week after authorities said she threatened to shoot at the police station, city officials and police officers.

According to the Florida City Police Department, 54-year-old Rocquel McCray was arrested at approximately 1:58 a.m. Friday.

Police said the threats were made through social media and were immediately reported to law enforcement.

During their investigation, officers learned that McCray had traveled from Jacksonville to Miami International Airport on Thursday before using a private transportation service to travel to Florida City, according to the department.

Police said McCray later contacted the Florida City Police Department and made additional threats to shoot at the police station while speaking with a dispatcher.

Officers located McCray shortly afterward at a local restaurant.

According to police, McCray resisted arrest before she was taken into custody on multiple felony charges. The department did not specify the charges in its news release.

Police said McCray is a former law enforcement officer whose employment with the Florida City Police Department ended in 2019.

“Threats against any individual, including city officials and law enforcement personnel, are taken seriously,” the department said in its release. “Anyone who engages in such conduct will be investigated and held accountable in accordance with the law.”

The department added that the safety of the community remains of the “utmost importance.”

A spokesperson for the Florida City Police Department confirmed Saturday that McCray was hospitalized after complaining of chest pains, but will be booked into jail once she is medically cleared.
