MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 39-year-old felon who had been convicted of child abuse was facing a charge for child sex abuse on Saturday in Miami-Dade County.
A 13-year-old girl told investigators that Stephan Adams started to sexually abuse her when she was about 9 years old in Miami-Dade County, records show.
According to an arrest warrant, the teen disclosed the details of the abuse during a forensic interview on Sept. 21, 2023, at Kristi House.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies with the special victims unit investigated the case as a sexual battery of a child under 12, records show.
The abuse happened on “multiple occasions,” and Adams gave the victim “snacks, money, or the use of his cellular phone so that she could play video games in exchange for her not telling anyone,” a M-DSO deputy wrote, according to an arrest warrant.
Deputies arrested Adams, of Florida City, on Thursday at Southwest 248 Street and 113 Court in southern Miami-Dade County’s Princeton neighborhood.
Records show Adams was arrested for child abuse on May 23, 2000, in Miami-Dade, and he was sentenced to 5 years in prison after he was convicted in 2009, when he was also arrested and convicted of armed robbery.
In 2021, Adams was arrested twice on weapons charges, and after four convictions a Miami-Dade judge sentenced him to three years in prison in 2023, court records show.
According to Adam’s profile with the Florida Department of Corrections, he was in prison from December 2009 to November 2013 and a second time from March 27, 2023 until his release on Nov. 20, 2024.
Miami-Dade inmate records show correctional deputies booked Adams at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday at the Turner Guilford Correctional Center. He faced a charge of sexual battery on a minor by an adult. A judge denied him bond, and he had a U.S. Marshals Service hold.
