DAVIE, Fla. — SpareZ, a family-friendly bowling alley in Davie, has officially closed.
Late last year, Texas-based Dalfen Industrial, a property investment company, purchased SpareZ’s home at 5325 South University Drive.
The 16.2 acres sold for $17.5 million as an addition to Dalfen Industrial’s warehouse portfolio. The South Florida Business Journal reported the property was going to be redeveloped.
In 2024 and 2021, the bowling alley made headlines over two shootings.
In 2021, Diamond Smith, better known as Pretty Ricky rap star Baby Blue, was shot during an attempted robbery outside of SpareZ.
Smith filed a civil lawsuit for negligence against Sparez in Broward County, alleging that the bowling alley didn’t have enough security.
In 2024, Jhajaira Mora, a SpareZ security guard, fired her black Glock 19 in an attempt to end a brawl, according to police. No one was injured.
On Monday, SpareZ displayed a message about the closing on the bowling alley’s site:
For many years, Sparez has been more than just a bowling center. It has been a place where friendships were formed, families gathered, and countless strikes, spares, and celebrations filled the lanes.
To everyone who walked through our doors-league members, weekend bowlers, birthday parties, families, and friends-thank you. Your laughter, competition, and community spirit are what made Sparez truly special.
We are deeply grateful for the memories created here and for the incredible community that supported us through the years. Every game bowled and every moment shared helped shape the story of Sparez.
While this chapter comes to a close, the memories made on these lanes will continue to live on with all of us who were lucky enough to be part of it.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for bowling with us.
