WASHINGTON — Despite Pakistan’s efforts, the negotiations between the United States and Iran have stalled.
U.S. President Donald Trump launched strikes against Iran on Feb. 28 and agreed to a ceasefire on April 7.
“We have to ensure that any deal that is made, any agreement that is made, is one that definitively prevents them from sprinting towards a nuclear weapon at any point,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Fox News on Monday.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz, which has put pressure on the global oil market.
“These pressures are cascading into empty fuel tanks, empty shelves — and empty plates,” United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres told the Security Council on Monday.
The fighting between Israel and Hezbollah continued in Lebanon despite a truce.
