Miami detective identifies Lee County trio in Wynwood burglary with 3 victims, records show

Clifford Saint-Pierre and Brian Miles face charges

Wynwood burglary A Miami detective identified Clifford Saint-Pierre, left, Brian Miles, center, and Jeffrey Shick, right, as the three burglars on June 12, at the Highley House, at 2150 North Miami Ave., records show. Two victims were shot and a burglary victim was pistol whipped, police said.

MIAMI — After Clifford Saint-Pierre pistol-whipped a man in the head when he broke into an apartment in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, the gun fired -- a stray bullet pierced through the front door and a neighbor’s apartment’s front door -- wounding a man who had just gotten up from his couch, according to an arrest warrant.

Saint-Pierre, 23, and two other burglars covered their faces, so another neighbor couldn’t tell who had “shoved him to the ground” in the hallway, “dragged” him inside the burglary victim’s apartment, and shot him in the left leg before he managed to run away to get help, according to an arrest warrant.

The three victims survived the chaos on June 12 at the Highley House apartment complex, at 2150 North Miami Ave., and Saint-Pierre and Brian Miles, two out of three suspects, faced felony charges on Thursday in Miami-Dade County, records show.

A detective reported Miles, 19, was armed with an “AK-47-style pistol” while he searched the burglary victim’s apartment for jewelry and cash, records show. The third burglar was Jeffrey Shick, according to police. The trio is from Lee County.

THE INVESTIGATION

Right after the burglary, a Miami police officer saw the trio running out of the apartment building, getting in a silver Toyota Camry, and when he ordered the driver to stop on North Miami Avenue, he sped away to Interstate 95, records show.

A Miami detective later reported Donshamar Wagner, the registered owner of the silver Toyota Camry, was behind bars for a robbery in Alachua County, according to the Miami-Dade County arrest warrants in the June 12 case.

Cell phone data showed Saint-Pierre’s phone traveled from Lehigh Acres in Lee County to the area of the robbery on June 12 in Miami and returned to Lehigh Acres after the robbery, according to the detective’s request for an arrest warrant.

The Miami detective also found a video on iCloud that showed Saint-Pierre, Miles, and Shick, 20, showing off the burglary victim’s stolen jewelry, according to an arrest warrant in the case.

The detective also learned that a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy ordered Saint-Pierre to stop at 1:55 a.m. on June 13, as he was driving the silver Toyota Camry that was involved in the burglary on June 12, in Miami, records show.

THE CHARGES

Court records show Miami-Dade prosecutors filed felony cases against Miles and Saint-Pierre on Aug. 6 after a judge issued warrants for their arrests.

Miles and Saint-Pierre face charges of home invasion robbery with a firearm, armed burglary with assault or battery, and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Inmate records show Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Saint-Pierre shortly after 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Saint-Pierre appeared in court on Thursday, and a judge granted a prosecutor’s motion for his pre-trial detention. The court set his detention hearing for Friday and arraignment hearing for Oct. 1.

Miami-Dade correctional deputies had already booked Miles on Aug. 29, and he was at the Metrowest Detention Center on Thursday afternoon. He appeared in court on Aug. 30, and a judge denied him bond. His arraignment hearing is on Sept. 19.

Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Laura Maria Gonzalez-Marques was set to preside over Saint-Pierre’s case, and Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Lody Jean over Miles’s case.

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
