Security guard injured after shots fired following dispute between 3 women at Miami bar
Miami police are searching for this man who they said shot at a security guard in Wynwood. MIAMI – Miami police are searching for a man and a woman who were involved in a shooting outside a bar in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. According to detectives, a security guard at the location told officers that three women got into an argument near the bar area and were ordered to leave the premises. The security guard said one of the women pulled out a gun and fired shots into the air before fleeing the area in a white BMW. Authorities said the security guard sustained a laceration from a bullet that grazed him.
60-foot Wynwood mural shows Miami Heat stars wearing masks
MIAMI – One artist is getting some serious points in the paint after unveiling a 60-foot-high building mural that both celebrates the start of the Miami Heat season and sends a message about wearing masks during the coronavirus pandemic. Kyle Holbrook’s work in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood depicts Jimmy Butler and teammates including Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Goran Dragic. They’re all wearing masks, though Herro’s is pulled down far enough that you can see his famous snarl. The mural can be seen at 3572 NW 5th Ave., at the corner of NW 36th Street and NW 5th Avenue. The Heat tip off their season Wednesday night at Orlando and then are home to face the Pelicans on Christmas Day.
Wynwood Walls reopens with ticketed entry — and there will be a cost in 2021
MIAMI – Closed by the coronavirus pandemic since mid-March, the Wynwood Walls have finally reopened. The Miami graffiti art destination resumed welcoming visitors Friday at 11 a.m., and you will now need to get a ticket for entry. Tickets are free for the first month, courtesy of the Wynwood Business Improvement District. “It changes how you feel,” Wynwood Walls CEO Jessica Goldman Srebnick said. Burglar steals Miami family’s citron-crested cockatoo Peaches
MIAMI – Norma Magarin said she has been missing her companion of 18 years and she needs the public’s help to find her. It has been more than two weeks since a burglar stole Peaches, her cockatoo, from her home in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. Kimberly Machado, Magarin’s daughter-in-law, said Magarin has been very depressed since she loves the citron-crested cockatoo like family. Machado said a burglar had stolen Peaches before in 2011, but they were able to recover her. Magarin is hoping that with the public’s help, Peaches will be back home for Christmas.
Weekend concert in Miami ‘concerning’ because of crowd and COVID-19, say city and county officials
MIAMI, Fla. – A concert over the weekend in Wynwood was one event most health experts and city leaders said should have never happened, but the party flyers went out long before Saturday night. Judging by the videos posted on social media, people turned out by the hundreds for a late-night concert by Jamaican dance-hall artist Shenseea. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez said the videos were “incredibly concerning.”Videos show the crowd shoulder to shoulder— absent of any obvious social distancing enforcement. “We have a current enforcement process and I’ll be reviewing what the current enforcement process is,” she said. Cava also wanted to remind Miami-Dade County residents to wear face masks, seek tests and isolate, when circumstances warrant.
