Wynwood apartment residents frustrated, fearful over lurker trying to enter units

It’s been going on for weeks, residents say

WYNWOOD, Fla. – People living at WYND 27 and 28 in Wynwood say they have been living in fear because of a man lurking in the hallways.

Miami police confirmed they are working the case and believe the man may be responsible for a burglary on Monday in which cash and a purse were stolen.

Ring doorbell video from an apartment at the building, located at 127 NW 27th St., appears to show the man pulling on door handles.

“He goes up to the door, checks if it’s open, tries getting in,” said resident Rodolfo Sanchez.

Resident Jesus Marcovivhi said the man walked in on his wife while she was cooking, posing as building security.

“My wife was like, ‘Who are you?’ and he was like, ‘Didn’t you call security?’” Marcovivhi said.

The run-in was enough for the couple to look for a way out of their lease.

“My wife, most of the time, is home by herself so I said, ‘We need to move out of here,’” Marcovivhi said.

Sanchez said residents have gone from being fearful to getting angry.

“There was a lot of fear at first and then a lot of frustration with management,” he said.

He said this has been going on for a couple of weeks, with some people reporting their personal belongings have been stolen.

The building management sent an email to residents about new safety measures, including a concierge. The email reads in part:

“We have arranged for formal patrol monitoring of the building seven days a week.”

Those patrols will happen in the overnight hours.

“It is nerve-wracking -- someone is walking around your building, trying to open your doors,” said Sanchez.
