MIAMI — A globally touring inflatable art exhibit that has attracted more than seven million visitors worldwide has arrived in South Florida, bringing creative installations and interactive experiences to Wynwood for a limited run.
“Pop Air: Art is Inflatable” recently opened at the Balloon Museum inside the Mana Wynwood Convention Center, featuring 18 large-scale rooms designed by international artists from Europe, Australia and the Americas.
The exhibit encourages guests to interact directly with the artwork through touch, sound and movement.
“As you enter, you can express yourself differently, so you can touch some artwork, and you can play with some of them,” project manager Sofia Saleri said.
Saleri said one installation allows visitors to trigger sounds and music through physical interaction.
“It has 12 different installations, so when you touch them or hug them as well, they start playing, so you become the director of the music,” she said.
The traveling exhibit blends contemporary art with inflatable structures, ball pits and sensory experiences aimed at visitors of all ages.
“So this place is huge actually,” Saleri said. “We have 18 rooms, from international artists from all over the world. We have some artists from Europe, Australia, and some from America.”
Organizers said the concept draws inspiration from the universal familiarity of balloons and their connection to childhood celebrations.
“So the balloon was our first idea. When you go to a kid’s birthday party, it’s the first thing you see,” Saleri said. “It’s something you see every day as a child. And you tend to think of a party when you think of a balloon.”
The exhibit will remain open through late September at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center in Wynwood.
