Family grieves after Pompano Beach crash kills woman while rollerblading

Single-vehicle crash leaves ‘good’ woman, 27, dead

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — “She was a good girl, very humble,” Acosta said.

Giancarlo Alvarez had been married to the victim of a Wednesday crash in Pompano Beach for nearly three years.

James Feeney, a Pompano Beach resident who regularly cycles in the area, said Palla shouldn’t have died because the driver of a silver Nissan decided to speed along Northeast 10th Street.

Witnesses said the driver of the Nissan failed at his attempt to veer around a slower-moving car, lost control and crashed into a tree in the 600th block of 10th Street.

“Everybody uses this path for bike riding, running, rollerblading,” Feeney said, adding that Palla’s death is “really sad and unfair.”

The force of the impact was so strong the car split in half -- leaving parts of it wrapped around a pole, a tree and the front of the vehicle in the middle of the street.

A witness’ cell phone video shows a man trying to help the driver of the Nissan after he was ejected and appeared to have died in the middle of the street. He survived.

A woman died Wednesday while rollerblading in Pompano Beach.

Palla died at the scene of the crash. Pompano Beach Fire Rescue personnel took the driver of the Nissan and a passenger to Broward Health North.
