Coronavirus: Another day of more than 8,000 new cases, 97 new deaths in Florida

More people getting tested for coronavirus ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday

Florida’s health department reported another day of increases over 8,000 of COVID-19 on Wednesday, while adding close to 100 new resident deaths. Florida counted 8,376 new cases only slightly down from 8,555 COVID-19 cases on Tuesday.

Florida now has 961,676 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 18,254 resident deaths, according to the health department’s dashboard.

The state has also reported that at least 228 non-resident deaths have occurred here, and there have been at least 54,133 hospitalizations attributed to the virus since the start of the outbreak.

The statewide positivity rate from yesterday’s testing was 7.1%. The 14-day average positivity rate is 7.7% and the 7-day is 7.18%.

Deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours in South Florida include three in Miami-Dade County, eight in Broward County and seven in Palm Beach County.

More than 2,000 of the new cases reported Wednesday were in Miami-Dade — the county makes up 25.3% of all new cases in the state.

Worldwide, the number of COVID-19 cases reported is more than 60.2 million. There have been more than 1.4 million deaths worldwide attributed to the pandemic, with over 38.4 million being declared recovered, according to data compiled from various sources by Johns Hopkins University.

The United States has passed 12.7 million confirmed cases, with more than 261,000 deaths from COVID-19, the highest totals in the world. Over 4.6 million Americans have been deemed recovered.
