2 men hospitalized following shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade

Two people were hospitalized following a shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade on Saturday, according to police.

The shooter allegedly fired at two people and then ran off on foot, police said.

The grandmother of one of the victims explained what she said happened.

ā€œ(The victim) was on the phone with his baby mama and the kids, and someone in a white car came by and shot him,ā€ said Sharon Jones said.

Jones said her 22-year-old grandson was sitting outside on his porch when someone came by and started shooting.

ā€œI donā€™t know how many times he got hit or nothing,ā€ she said. ā€œI just know they say he got in the neck. Thatā€™s what I know.ā€

That manā€™s mother also spoke with Local 10 News, though she did not want her identity revealed.

She said her son was lucky he was only grazed by the bullets and wants all of the violence to end.

ā€œI am so sick of this shooting,ā€ she told Local 10 Newsā€™ Madeleine Wright. ā€œI donā€™t know when itā€™s going to stop, but it really needs to stop.ā€

A number of Miami-Dade police officers and investigators gathered at the scene of the shooting along Northwest 73rd Street, some even going into the home of neighbors in search of surveillance.

The victims are alive, but Jones wants the shooter to be captured.

ā€œCome out retirement,ā€ she said. ā€œIā€™m in retirement. They want to be thugs. Iā€™m one of the original thugs, so Iā€™m coming out of retirement.ā€
