Fight, pistol-whipping outside Plantation Publix leads to 2 arrests, cops say

PLANTATION, Fla. — A fight involving a pistol-whipping outside of a Publix in Plantation led to two arrests Wednesday night, according to the city’s police department.

It happened at around 8:15 p.m. at the supermarket chain’s location at 6921 W. Broward Blvd., within the Plantation Towne Square shopping center.

Investigators said “one suspect pulled out a handgun, struck one of the victims in the back of the head with it and stole the victim’s cellphone,” while a “second victim reported being bitten, scratched and punched by another suspect.”

Police said after pulling over the suspects’ vehicle, they arrested Khamal J. Powell, 28, on charges of armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, as well as an identity theft warrant out of Brevard County.

They also arrested Khalil Sean Powell, 29, on two battery charges.

Police didn’t immediately say whether or how the two men were related.

Khalil Powell had been booked into the Broward Main Jail on Wednesday. Khamal Powell did not appear in Broward jail records.
