FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Eight people are without a home after a fire broke out Sunday night at a single-family house in Fort Lauderdale, according to fire rescue.

Just before 9:30 p.m., Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue received multiple 911 calls reporting a house fire.

Crews arrived about three minutes later and found heavy smoke and flames coming from one side of the single-family home near the 1100 block of NW 15th Street.

The people inside were able to get out safely on their own, according to authorities.

About 20 minutes after arriving, crews had knocked down most of the fire and were working to get into the attic through the roof, according to fire rescue.

A total of eight residents will be displaced because of the fire.

A fire investigator is headed to the scene to determine what caused the fire.
