HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Miami-Dade firefighters extinguished a blaze that erupted Tuesday morning inside an abandoned home in Homestead.
Sky 10 was above the home off Southwest Third Street and North Flagler Avenue just before 6:45 a.m. as heavy smoke was coming from the home.
“The dog went crazy and then I looked through the window -- two guys were leaving the house. In the next 15 seconds, the fire popped out,” Javier Valladares, who lives next door to the house, said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said they responded to the house fire around 6 a.m.
They say the house was unoccupied, however Valladares said while no one lives there, he did see two people running away from the home just moments before the fire broke out.
“It’s been empty for over ten years. Nobody lives there except for the homeless -- they come and go every day,” he said.
In fear for their lives, Valladares and his family left their home until the situation was under control.
“It got hot over here and the wind was blowing this way, so we all have to leave the house,” he said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said no injuries have been reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
