Dump truck strikes Turnpike overpass in Hollywood, leading to closures

Crash at Sheridan Street overpass (WPLG)

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – A dump truck struck an overpass on Florida’s Turnpike in Hollywood Tuesday afternoon, causing major traffic delays and leading officials to close part of the highway.

The crash happened just before 1:30 p.m. at the Sheridan Street overpass over the northbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Images from Sky 10 show debris covering multiple lanes and traffic snarled. Officials closed the northbound lanes, forcing traffic to exit at Hollywood Boulevard.

According to FHP, the dump truck driver left the scene after hitting the overpass, which was also shut down.

According to FL511, backups extended all the way back to at least the Miami-Dade County line.

Officials haven’t yet said if anyone was injured or when the Turnpike would reopen.
