U.S. goes after alleged leaders of Haitian gangs

MIAMI – The U.S. is offering a $3 million reward for information leading to the arrest of three men who are accused of leading gangs in Haiti that engage in kidnapping.

The FBI released three flyers with pictures of Lanmo Sanjou, Jermaine Stephenson, and Vitel’homme Innocent. They are wanted for their role in the kidnapping of a group of Christian missionaries from the U.S. and Canada on Oct. 16, 2021.

U.S. authorities also identified a group of seven men who are accused of leading five feared gangs in Haiti: The 400 Mawozo, Kraze Barye, Gran Ravine, Village de Dieu, and Kokorat san Ras. Prosecutors filed charges against them.

Sanjou, 29, also known as Joseph Wilson, and Stephenson, also known as Gaspiyay, are both leaders of the 400 Mawozo; and Innocent, 36, is a leader of the Kraze Barye gang, according to federal agents.

FBI special agents are also searching for Renel Destina, also known as Ti Lapli, 40, the leader of the gang Gran Ravine; Emanuel Solomon, also known as Manno, the leader of the gang Village de Dieu; and Jean Dolcin, a leader of the gang Kokorat san Ras.

Haitian law enforcement officials arrested John Peter Fleronvil, another leader of the gang Kokorat, on Sept. 11, while trying to cross to the Dominican Republic.

Prosecutors charged Sanjou, Stephenson, and Innocent with conspiracy to commit hostage-taking and hostage-taking. Destina, Solomon, Dolcin, and Fleronvil are wanted for hostage-taking.

The FBI is asking anyone with information about these fugitives to submit tips online or call 754-703-2000.
