Good Samaritan rescues woman who drove vehicle into pool in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A good Samaritan rescued a woman from her sinking vehicle Tuesday afternoon after she drove it into the swimming pool of her own apartment complex in Fort Lauderdale.

Local 10 News obtained surveillance video of the car submerged in a pool.

Sonia Valentin, who lives in the apartment complex, said she came outside to find her neighbor still in the driver seat inside of the sinking car.

“I heard a loud crash and I said, ‘What the heck was that?’” she said. “We came out (and) we saw a neighbor in number one helping her out.”

T.J. Yarborough told Local 10 News that he jumped in to help save the young woman.

“The water was coming up and (I) couldn’t get the door open, but the window -- the electric still works so the windows went down and I told her, ‘It’s time to go.’ I got her out of the car, but she’s good and she’s safe,” he said.

Authorities said there were no major injuries following the incident and police are investigating the cause of the crash.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene when the car was eventually pulled out and towed away.

Neighbors told Local 10 that a lot of children usually swim in the pool, but were grateful that no one was hurt in the incident.
