Jonathan Suarez was driving a black Dodge RAM pickup truck northbound on State Road 826 near Southwest 24 Street, according to FHP.

Suarez, 36, “was having trouble maintaining a lane, consistent with an impaired driver,” an FHP trooper wrote in his arrest report.

When Suarez exited onto State Road 968, he “almost lost control” and he “was having trouble maintaining a single lane,” according to the FHP trooper.

Suarez was traveling eastbound on SR 968 when he drove right through a red light, turned right on 75 Avenue, stopped just south of Fifth Street, and abandoned the white dog inside of the pickup truck, according to FHP.

“I observed the dog was panting with his tongue sticking out,” the trooper wrote, adding that he found a cold Corona beer in the front left door pocket.

Two FHP troopers arrested Suarez, who was wearing all white and carrying the pickup truck’s keys, shortly before 8 p.m., along Grand Canal Drive, near Flagami.

Suarez is facing charges of fleeing and eluding a police officer, resisting an officer without violence, confining a dog without food or water, and reckless driving.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
