Keys woman arrested after planning to drown 9-month-old child, deputies say

KEY LARGO, Fla. – A 32-year-old Key Largo woman was arrested Saturday after threatening to harm a child, deputies said.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Adam Linhardt, Ashley Marcella Brooks is facing charges of child neglect and making written and electronic threats of bodily harm.

Authorities said MCSO deputies were notified around 3:40 p.m. of a domestic argument at a home in Key Largo.

According to Linhardt, further investigation revealed Brooks sent a text message to her boyfriend stating she was going to drown a 9-month-old child.

Deputies did not confirm if Brooks is the mother of the victim.

Investigators said the child was found by Brooks’ boyfriend unattended and unharmed in a nearby residence while Brooks was swimming in a pool at a home nearby.

She was taken to jail and her bond was set at $75,000.
