MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Several vehicles were involved in a major crash Friday morning outside two homes in southwest Miami-Dade.
Sky 10 was above the area of Southwest 92nd Avenue and 21st Terrace around 8:30 a.m. as a silver pickup truck was on its side.
A woman at the scene told Local 10 News reporter Annaliese Garcia that her son, Alexis Gonzalez, 30, was driving a white van that was struck by the pickup truck.
Jose Guillermo Perez was also in that van, family friends said.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed that two trauma alert patients were transported by ground to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital in critical, but stable condition.
“I was just sleeping. I had a day off from school today and I heard, like, this super loud bang,” one witness said. “Me and my dog woke up – he’s freaking out, like barking, and I open my window and I just see, like, a van stopped and I see the driver and passenger open the door and just lay on the floor. But the driver was not moving at all.”
Surveillance video shows the silver pickup truck speeding through a stop sign before hitting the van
The van then crashed into the side of a nearby home.
“We saw that this truck was coming super fast, ignored the stop sign and just hit that van that was driving by,” the witness said.
Miami-Dade police say this started as a robbery at the ironically named On the Run convenience store on Southwest 87th avenue and Coral Way.
The store manager confirmed to Local 10 News that the thieves swiped some beer before leaving.
According to police, three people fled in the truck before the crash.
One person inside the truck died and two others fled the scene.
Anyone with information about their identities or whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
