Kodak Black’s attorney claims rapper needs addiction treatment, not prison

MIAMI – Rapper Kodak Black’s attorney is asking federal judges to allow the 26-year-old rapper, also known as Bill Kapri, to get treatment for the disease of addiction — instead of prison.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons had custody of him on Wednesday in Miami after a federal judge denied his release and deemed him a “danger” to the community on Tuesday.

Federal prosecutors accused him of violating his three-year probation after former President Donald Trump commuted his sentence in 2021 over a Miami-Dade County conviction.

The Pompano Beach rapper’s probation was related to his purchase of a weapon in Hialeah — and was set to end in January — but police officers reported finding him sleeping in a black Bentley with cocaine on Dec. 7, in Plantation, records show.

Earlier this year, a Broward County judge sent the rapper to rehab for 30 days. Attorney Bradford Cohen is asking federal judges to allow the rapper to go to rehab again. Federal prosecutors oppose.
