Man arrested following fatal hit-and-run crash in Lauderhill

LAUDERHILL, Fla. — A 22-year-old man was arrested last month following a fatal hit-and-run crash in Lauderhill, authorities announced Friday.

According to Lauderhill police, officers responded to the 3500 block of West Sunrise Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 20 after receiving 911 calls about a man lying in the street and needing medical attention.

Lauderhill Fire Rescue crews also responded to the area and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

He was later identified as 46-year-old Juan Jose Garcia.

According to authorities, traffic homicide investigators later found the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run and identified Rodnerd Belizaire as the driver who fled the scene.

He was taken into custody Dec. 29 on charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving death, tampering with physical evidence and driving with a suspended license.

As of Friday, Belizaire was being held in lieu of a $101,500 bond at the Joseph V. Conte Facility in Pompano Beach.
