SWEETWATER, Fla. – Sweetwater police arrested a 20-year-old man on a felony animal cruelty charge Wednesday after they said his neighbor called 911 to report he was beating his dog — and had been doing so for months.

Police said officers responded to The One at University City apartments, located at 740 SW 109th Ave., after getting the 911 call at around 9 p.m.

According to an arrest report, the neighbor told police that Jordi Ray Bermudez had been “repeatedly” punching the dog since September and that she had multiple videos where the white Siberian husky could be heard “screaming and yelping.”

That neighbor said she ran to her peephole Wednesday after hearing the dog’s cries and saw Bermudez “chasing the dog in the hallway and then grabbing the dog and beginning to punch it repeatedly and excessively in the torso area before dragging it back into his apartment.”

“Officers on the scene spoke to other neighbors who also said they constantly heard the dog screaming and what they believed to be (Bermudez) screaming,” a Sweetwater police officer wrote.

That officer wrote that Bermudez “intentionally inflicted unnecessary pain and suffering on his white Siberian husky by excessively and repeatedly punching the dog in the torso.”

Bermudez bonded out of the Miami-Dade jail on a charge of animal cruelty with intent to injure or kill.
