BSO: Crook caught on camera swiping packages from porches in North Lauderdale

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives asked for the public’s help Thursday to identify and locate a porch pirate who they said was caught on camera stealing and loading stolen items into a U-Haul van.

According to BSO, the thefts occurred just after 3:30 p.m. on Jan.16, near the 6800 block of Doral Street in North Lauderdale.

Surveillance video of the crime shows a man driving a U-Haul truck and stopping near the victim’s home, according to deputies.

They said the driver was seen exiting the van wearing an army green jacket, white shirt and dark-colored pants and quickly ran toward the victim’s porch.

Once there, the homeowner’s Ring camera captured the man collecting the victim’s delivered boxes and running back toward the vehicle. The man was then seen placing the items in the back of the U-Haul and leaving the scene, investigators said.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the porch pirate’s identity or whereabouts to contact BSO North Lauderdale District Detective Pedro Almodovar at 954-722-5803 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
