‘Still have flashbacks’: Man knocked from wheelchair, mauled by dogs in Florida City shares ordeal

County: 1 dog euthanized, 2nd set to be put down Tuesday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Pierre Massey keeps reliving a nightmare.

“I still have flashbacks when I close my eyes sometimes, because it seemed like it would never be over, even a couple times when they did let go they came back again,” he told Local 10 News from his hospital bed on Monday.

Massey, who is homeless and uses a wheelchair, was the victim of a vicious mauling at the hands of pit bull and mixed breed dogs Boo-Boo and Jumpety in a Florida City neighborhood on Wednesday.

The attack was caught on camera. The dogs, after knocking him from his wheelchair, ripped at Massey’s body and tore into his flesh.

“I fell to the ground and I didn’t want them to get to my groin or my face,” Massey said. “I was trying to fight back but they kept coming at me.”

Police say both these dogs lived nearby and belong to a man who is currently in jail.

Neighbors say some people in the area were helping to take care of them. Somehow, they were able to jump a fence and attack Massey.

“They had my arms and legs,” he said. “I was wondering if anyone was going to help. Cars were stopping but it seemed like nobody wanted to get out.”

He said, “As I was on the ground, I was like ‘Damn, no one cares.’”

The dogs have been taken by Miami-Dade Animal Services. A spokesperson said one dog was euthanized Monday while the other was set to be euthanized Tuesday,

Massey said being alive after such a painful and brutal attack is a “blessing.”

“It could have been a lot worse,” he said.

He required skin grafts at Jackson South Medical Center and is now in need of the community’s care on his long road to recovery.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with Massey’s medical expenses, and it can be found by clicking here.
