‘Shameless’ shutter thief caught on camera repeatedly targeting Broward neighborhoods

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Residents in Deerfield Beach and Pompano Beach are on the lookout for a shutter thief on the run.

Over the course of a week, several videos have emerged of a man uninstalling accordion shutters at various homes in both cities, swiping them in minutes.

“How shameless,” Deerfield Beach resident Olga Alvarez said in Spanish. “It’s during the day and all.”

She said it happened on Monday at around 10:50 a.m. Alvarez saw a man on her cameras, taking his time and uninstalling the panels on at least two big windows on the side of her house.

“He uninstalls it all, puts it in his van and comes back for his tools,” she said

Then on Monday, just three miles away in Pompano Beach, another home was hit near East Sample Road and Northeast 10th Terrace.

“I watched him and I yelled at him through the ring,” said the victim, who didn’t want to be identified. “I said you’re being watched.”

The victim told Local 10 News she initially thought he was breaking into her home.

In a matter of minutes, the man uninstalled two panels. He was caught again on camera at another home a mere four blocks away, attempting the same thing.

Several other residents have claimed they’ve also lost their shutters, sharing experiences online.

Local 10 News is working to learn how big of a problem this is.

If you recognize the man, you’re asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
