Northeast Miami-Dade residents displaced after crane collapse still waiting for answers

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Several South Florida families are upset after being left with nowhere to go several days after a crane came crashing down onto their northeast Miami-Dade County apartment building.

The building that houses their units has since been deemed unsafe for them to live.

FPL said the disaster happened as contractors were working on an electric line on Feb. 7.

One of the residents, Francisca, said she was asleep when she was thrown off her bed by the impact.

She rushed to her disabled neighbor to help her get out to safety.

Another resident, Carlos Perez, said he was thankful he wasn’t in his car after it was destroyed by the falling crane.

Now, several days after the collapse, they want answers.

Linda Canton was helping her mom pack up on Tuesday night after the apartment building was condemned.

“We have to pay for storage, we have to pay for our U-Haul,” she said.

Residents told Local 10 News they were provided a hotel room through Thursday.

Perez said he is still waiting on the crane company or FPL to tell him who is going to pay for his car.
