Police: Victim fatally shoots thief breaking into vehicle in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A car burglar was shot dead early Wednesday morning by the victim whose vehicle he was breaking into, Miami-Dade police said.

According to authorities, officers responded to the area of Northwest 79th Avenue and 194th Street shortly after 2:30 a.m. regarding a person being shot.

Police said they discovered that the subject, identified Thursday as Oscar Aneudy Suarez, 23, and another man were breaking into a vehicle when the owner confronted them.

An altercation ensued and the victim pulled out a gun and shot Suarez, police said.

Authorities said Suarez and his accomplice then fled the scene in a nearby vehicle, but then crashed into several vehicles.

“That vehicle later came to a rest at a short distance from the residence where this all started,” Detective Andre Martin said.

The passenger inside the vehicle fled the scene and remains at large.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced Suarez, who was shot in the stomach area, dead at the scene.

“We urge any citizens who find themselves becoming a victim of a crime not to confront these subjects,” Martin said. “It’s very dangerous. You don’t know how desperate these people are.”

Anyone with information about the passenger’s whereabouts is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
