Man surrenders to deputies after woman stabbed in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea

LAUDERDALE-BY-THE-SEA, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office is investigating a stabbing incident that occurred Sunday night in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea.

According to a spokesperson for the agency, deputies responded to the 4400 block of North Ocean Drive around 9:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a stabbing.

The spokesperson said deputies arrived to find a woman who had been stabbed multiple times.

Paramedics transported her to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not expected to be life-threatening.

Authorities said the suspect, Damion Matthews, 47, turned himself in to law enforcement Monday morning at BSO’s Main Jail.

BSO’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.

Matthews faces an attempted murder charge.

A motive for the stabbing has not yet been released.
