‘We are really excited’: Marijuana industry pushes for legalization in Florida

Voters to decide marijuana legalization on Amendment 3

MIAMI – Back in 2016, more than 70% of Florida voters approved making medical marijuana legal. In November, voters will have to decide if recreational marijuana use should be legal too.

The specific question is if anyone who is 21 years old or older should be allowed to carry up to 3 ounces of marijuana without any legal consequence in Florida.

Kim Rivers, the chief executive officer of Trulieve, a provider of cannabis and CBD products, said the push for legalization is costing over $40 million.

“Floridians have been asking for this for quite some time, so we are really excited,” Rivers said.

The Florida Supreme Court approved the language on the ballot and at least 60% of voters will have to approve Amendment 3 for legalization to move forward.

The Florida Chamber of Commerce opposed amending the state constitution and conducted a poll that found about 57% of voters support legalization.

Marijuana use is already legal in Colorado, Washington, Alaska, Oregon, California, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, Michigan, Vermont, Illinois, Arizona, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, New Mexico, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maryland, Missouri, Delaware, Minnesota, and Ohio.
