Advocates for, against abortion rights prepare for battle on November ballot

MIAMI ā€“ The political action committee that raised $17 million for the petition drive that put abortion rights on the ballot in Florida is now pivoting to funding the ā€œYesā€ campaign and one to get people to the polls.

Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and Florida Rising are among the big donors, but pages and pages of individual small-dollar contributions signal grassroots support.

ā€œWe are expecting them to come with us with whatever they can,ā€ said Ashley Walker with Florida Womanā€™s Freedom Coalition.

Florida Voice for the Unborn looks to be leading the statewide lobby to vote no.

Local 10 News has learned itā€™s about to file papers for an opposing political action committee to raise as much money as possible for that effort.

ā€œI anticipate a wide variety of pro-life organizations, from national groups to church-based groups to oppose this,ā€ said Andrew Shirvell with the Florida Voice for the Unborn. ā€œIt takes millions to run an effective, collective opposition campaign. We are going to primarily to mirror what pro-life orgs in other states have done when they faced these problems-abortion initiatives.ā€
