Suspected Cuban migrants come ashore in upper Florida Keys

TAVERNIER, Fla. – Authorities responded to a migrant landing on Thursday morning in the Florida Keys.

Local 10 News has learned approximately a dozen migrants came ashore in Tavernier.

Migrants who came ashore in the upper Florida Keys are detained by authorities. (WPLG)

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Highway Patrol, U.S. Border Patrol and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission were all observed on scene.

The migrants are believed to be from Cuba and arrived on what appeared to be a makeshift sailboat.

There is no word on any injuries.
