CityPlace Doral police-involved shooting: Police Chief Edwin Lopez releases information

DORAL, Fla. – Doral Police Chief Edwin Lopez said two of his department’s police officers discharged their firearms on Saturday morning at the Martini Bar in CityPlace.

Lopez said the shooting was at about 3 a.m., and one of the police officers, who has four years of experience, was wounded and applied a tourniquet on himself.

“The heroic actions of our police officers today prevented an incident from escalating,” Lopez said.

The police chief also said the Miami-Dade Police Department was investigating the homicide, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement was investigating the police-involved shooting.

“The Doral police department is assisting in both parts,” Lopez said.

Lopez said police officers from the neighboring Medley and Sweetwater departments also responded to help secure the scene. He praised his officers’ swift action.

“Two officers and a subject who is diseased all produced firearms and discharged their weapons,” Lopez said.
