Another Surfside official expected to quit as town shakeup continues

SURFSIDE, Fla. – Quite a few changes are going on at Surfside Town Hall: The town attorney is out. The police chief is out.

At Tuesday’s commission meeting, the town manager is also expected to resign.

“The town planner, the building official, everybody’s resigned,” said Mayor Charles Burkett.

“Is the problem that they just don’t like you?” asked Local 10 News’ Christian De La Rosa.

“I think you could possibly characterize it like that,” Burkett replied. “I don’t think they want to answer my questions.”

It is not uncommon for new administrations to bring leadership changes.

Burkett, recently re-elected to his former post, believes that he is not the problem, instead pointing to unanswered questions, many of them about zoning.
