Surveillance video captures fatal shooting in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead Thursday afternoon.

According to Detective Angel Rodriguez, who is also a spokesman for the police department, officers responded to the 11300 block of Southwest 216th Street at 2:07 p.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert.

He said they found a man at the scene who had been shot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.

According to Rodriguez, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim had been killed in a drive-by shooting, however surveillance video obtained Friday by Local 10 News shows a man approaching the victim on foot before appearing to shoot him.

Sleepy Brown was his nickname, but loved ones told Local 10 News’ Terrell Forney they also knew the victim as Antwan Ingraham.

“I’ve been knowing Sleepy since he’s been a little boy,” said Somwhang Flowers. “That’s my good brother. He’s always been a cool, fun guy.”

Police did not immediately have a description of the shooter or vehicle, but one person was detained a short distance from the scene.

Friends said the victim operated a mobile car wash business and many of his customers would come to him.

While loved ones now hope police will catch Ingraham’s killer, they initially said they didn’t believe he was the intended target, but was at the wrong place at the wrong time.

“He never messed with anybody. He never started confusion with nobody. This is so senseless and this really hurt me a lot,” Flowers said.

Romania Dukes is a strong advocate against gun violence, after losing her own son to a stray bullet 10 years ago on the very same block.

“I rushed, dropped everything that I was doing to get here,” said Dukes. “I knew him, my family knew him. You know, enough is enough.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
