Police: Search for suspect who stabbed man in Coconut Creek continues

COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A helicopter, K-9 units, and officers in tactical searched for a suspect after a stabbing on Saturday in Coconut Creek, police said. He got away — likely in a nature preserve.

According to Sgt. Scotty Leamon, a spokesman for the Coconut Creek Police Department, police officers set up a perimeter in the Coconut Creeks Hilton Estates area.

The victim survived the stabbing near Northwest 49 Avenue and 52 Street, and fire rescue personnel flew him to the Broward Health Medical Center.

His condition was critical, police said. Michael Costanzo, who lives in the area, was surprised by the large police presence.

“We’ve never seen this many cops here,” Costanzo said. “This is normally a pretty quiet area.”

Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.

This was a developing story. Local 10 News Assignment Desk Editor Mercedes Cevallos and Photojournalist Aleksani Cameron contributed to this report.
