NORTH BAY VILLAGE, Fla. – A 30-year-old man already jailed on battery charges added two felonies into the mix Monday after Miami-Dade police said he boarded a boat and kidnapped his girlfriend at gunpoint back in 2022.

According to an arrest report, on Sept. 3, 2022, the woman was on a boat anchored in Biscayne Bay about 1,000 feet north of Shuckers Restaurant, located on the 79th Street Causeway in North Bay Village.

Police said she and others were waiting for a taxi to take them back to the docks when her boyfriend, Miguel Angel Lopez, showed up on another boat, boarded their vessel and pointed a handgun at the woman, demanding she get on his boat.

The woman, in fear for her safety, “hesitated,” police said, at which point Lopez “grabbed the victim by the neck with his other hand,” then “pushed the victim towards his vessel and demanded (she) climb aboard.”

The report states he “sailed away” with the woman and later dropped her off at her home.

Lopez, of southwest Miami-Dade, was arrested on unrelated charges Sunday and a corrections officer informed detectives of his arrest, police said, leading to a second formal arrest on charges of armed kidnapping and aggravated assault with a firearm.

He was being held in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $13,000 total bond, according to jail records.
