FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies were holding a murder suspect on Wednesday who marked his 20th birthday at the main jail in Fort Lauderdale.

Lemons was 19 years old and it was 10 days before his birthday. According to Detective Daniel B. Valles’s report, Lemons had a loaded Glock 23 40 caliber pistol.

“The firearm was loaded with (13) rounds in the magazine, and (1) round chambered,” Valles wrote.

During the investigation, deputies reported Lemons’s place of employment was the Jacklyn Academy, a private school, in Fort Lauderdale. A spokesperson for the school reported on Thursday that Lemons was a student there in 2022.

According to the arrest report, deputies also learned Lemons was driving a 2016 grey Honda Accord and he had a firearm with an upgrade — all while on probation.

“I recognized the firearm was altered with an internal auto sear, converting this firearm from ... semi-automatic into a pistol capable of fully automatic fire designed to shoot more than one shot, without reloading, with a single function of the trigger,” Valles wrote.

County inmate records show Lemons faced eight charges after his arrest on March 11. The list includes a second-degree murder charge, four weapons-related charges, a felony capias for missing court, resisting an officer without violence, and a probation violation charge.

Lemons appeared in bond court on Wednesday. Correctional officers held him without bond on the charges of murder, probation violation, and capias. His bond for possession of a firearm by a minor was $10,000; possession of a weapon by a felon was $25,000, and the bond for the other three charges was $3.

Broward County Circuit Judge Frank Ledee was presiding over the 2022 case. A BSO news release identified the victim who was shot on March 27, 2023, at 7471 SW 10 Court, in North Lauderdale, as Taris Jackson.

According to BSO, Jackson died at Broward Health North of a single gunshot wound to the stomach, and detectives identified Lemons as the shooter. Jackson was 23.

According to the Florida Department of Corrections, Lemons had already been convicted of a charge of a felon or delinquent with a gun or concealed weapon or ammunition on Dec. 23, 2022. His probation started on May 2, 2023, and it was set to end on May 1, 2026.

Lemons’s most recent weapons charges are unauthorized possession of a firearm by a minor; possession of a weapon, short-barreled gun rifle, or machine gun; carrying a concealed firearm; and possession of a weapon or ammunition by a Florida felon.
