Police investigate alleged arson in Miami

MIAMI – Miami police are investigating after several vehicles were scorched in a fire Wednesday morning.

Sky 10 was above the area of North Miami Avenue and Northwest 76th Street just after 6:15 a.m. as several vehicles parked outside an apartment building appeared to have been damaged.

City of Miami Fire-Rescue Lt. Pete Sanchez confirmed that one car was set on fire and the flames spread to other vehicles.

He said the Miami Police Department is now handling the investigation.

“It was intentional, so we are trying to figure out how many people were there. Was it just one person? Were there more people involved?” Officer Mike Vega said. “We are obtaining videos from residents around the area just to see if anybody captured, between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m., anyone walking in the area maybe carrying some canisters, anything that would help us determine who did this and why they did this.”

No other details were immediately released.

Anyone who has surveillance cameras in the area or who has information about the fire is asked to call the City of Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
