MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Authorities in Miami-Dade County took a man into custody for allegedly threatening the lives of a man and his wife over money.

Deputies took 61-year-old Richard Capelletti into custody on Sunday at South Miami Hospital, where he was being treated for injuries unrelated to the crime.

According to authorities, one of the victims “is responsible for depositing $5,000 a month” in Capelletti’s bank account.

On Wednesday and Thursday of last week, deputies said Capelletti left five separate messages for the victim and his wife.

In those messages, deputies said Capelletti demanded the money be sent to him immediately before threatening both of the victims’ lives.

Over the weekend, detectives said they learned that Capelletti was hospitalized and instructed the head nurse to contact them prior to his release due to there being probable cause for an arrest.

Police said they received word on Sunday that Capelletti was trying to leave the hospital against medical advice, and officers quickly responded and took him into custody.

An alleged confession was omitted from Capelletti’s arrest form.

His bond amount for the felony charge of aggravated stalking or harassment has yet to be set, but he was given a $250 bond for the misdemeanor charge of making a threatening phone call.
