MIAMI – As new car seat regulations are set to go into effect at the end of June, a South Florida hospital is providing free help to parents to make sure their child’s seat is installed correctly.

Beginning on June 30, all car seats sold in the United States must meet standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The updated regulation, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 213a, applies to seats designed for children who weigh under 40 pounds.

Parents who already own a car seat that has not expired, recalled and/or installed correctly are not affected by the new regulations.

Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, located at 3100 SW 62nd Ave, Miami, FL 33155, provides free car seat checks during weekdays, year-round.

The car seat checks are conducted on the first floor of the yellow parking garage.

Parents and caregivers can make an appointment by calling 305-663-6800.
