SOUTH BEACH, Fla. – Hussam Abdul Ghaffar and Duan Harris were both in Miami-Dade County jail on Wednesday night after a theft, a hit with a steel thermos, and a stabbing with a box cutter in South Beach, records show.
Crime scene investigators found a yellow utility box cutter next to a sink at the 7-Eleven where Ghaffar, 41, was working on Tuesday night at 350 Lincoln Road, according to police reports.

Surveillance videos showed Harris, 40, walking into the 7-Eleven at 11:06 p.m., leaving seconds later, and Ghaffar exiting the store shortly after, according to police reports.
Surveillance videos also show a confrontation after 11:07 p.m. at the entrance of a McDonald’s, at 1650 Washington Ave., and a struggle that ended with Harris falling, according to police reports.
Police officers reported finding Harris bleeding on the ground along Washington Avenue, near Lincoln Road, and tried to help him with a gauze until fire rescue personnel arrived, records show.
Ghaffar said he was in pain after Harris hit him in the head with a steel thermos, and Harris, who is homeless, admitted to stealing sandwiches and juice, valued at $17.45, from the 7-Eleven, according to police reports.
A police officer also reported finding a small bag with crack cocaine in Harris’s pocket before fire rescue personnel took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital, according to police.
Harris accused Ghaffar of stabbing him. Miami Beach police officers arrested Harris at about 11:24 p.m., and Ghaffar at 11:27 p.m., on Tuesday, according to police arrest reports.
Miami-Dade County inmate records show correctional deputies booked Ghaffar at 5:35 a.m., and Harris at 6:30 a.m., on Wednesday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Harris faced charges of battery, cocaine possession, and petit theft. His bond was $3,650. Ghaffar faced a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. His bond was $2,500.
