Jail records show Benoit Garcon is facing eight counts of criminal mischief of $1,000 or more.

Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office said they responded around 1:42 a.m. to Pelican Bay Marina, located at 1275 NE 79th St., after receiving reports of a man damaging vehicles with a large stone.

A security guard told deputies she was patrolling the marina when she heard a loud bang.

Upon investigating the noise, deputies she said she saw Garcon smashing windshields on several parked vehicles using a “stone paver.”

According to an arrest report, Garcon allegedly damaged five personal vehicles, two Miami-Dade Fire Rescue vehicles and one marked Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office patrol unit.

The report stated that the damage to the patrol unit alone was estimated at about $8,000.

The security guard, who said she has known Garcon from previous encounters over the last three years, told investigators he repeatedly asked, “Where is my boat?” as he continued smashing windshields, according to the report.

After the destruction, deputies said Garcon ran west on Northeast 79th Street.

Deputies said they eventually made contact with Garcon and took him into custody without further incident.

The security guard later identified Garcon as the person responsible for the damage, the report stated.

Deputies noted in their report that Garcon appeared “highly agitated, made arbitrary and erratic statements, and lacked the ability to speak in complete sentences” while being interviewed after his arrest.

Due to his condition, investigators said they chose not to interrogate him at the scene.

As of Tuesday, Garcon is being held on a $20,000 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
