NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Authorities responded to reports of a shooting involving at least one police officer in North Miami Wednesday afternoon, following what witnesses described as a police chase that ended in gunfire.
It happened in a residential neighborhood near the 500 block of Northeast 137th Street.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said at least one person was transported to a nearby trauma center, and another was taken to a local hospital.
Authorities have not released any details about the individuals’ age, identity, or condition.
Witnesses told Local 10 News that the incident may have begun with a police pursuit of a stolen car.
They said the driver of the car pulled into a driveway and refused to stop. A woman reportedly jumped out of the vehicle, and a police officer may have been in the path of the car before shots were fired.
As of Wednesday evening, that information has not been confirmed by law enforcement.
Witnesses say one individual, possibly the suspected driver, may have been hit by gunfire.
A woman is also reportedly in custody, but police have not officially commented on her involvement or any arrests.
In a community advisory, the North Miami Police Department said there is no threat to the public. Officers remain at the scene, and residents should expect a large law enforcement presence as the investigation continues.
No other details were immediately released.
