OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A 46-year-old woman is recovering after being shot while driving to work Wednesday morning in Oakland Park, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the woman was behind the wheel when someone pulled up alongside her and opened fire.

“She’s still alive so we’re happy about it,” said BSO Chaplain John Mohorne Jr., who identified the victim as his daughter, LaTure. “She’s doing great.”

Family members told Local 10 News that LaTure had been heading to work when the gunman pulled up next to her vehicle and fired multiple shots, striking her in the hand and arm.

“I heard … boom boom,” said Bridgette Daniels, who lives nearby and heard the gunfire.

Despite her injuries, authorities said the woman managed to drive herself back home to the 400 block of Northwest 43rd Street and then to an area hospital for treatment.

BSO deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue crews said they responded to the victim’s home, where a blue Honda Civic with a tarp covering the driver’s side window was towed away as part of the investigation.

Sky 10 flew over the scene around 1:30 p.m. as detectives from BSO’s Crime Scene and Violent Crimes units worked outside the residence.

Authorities have not said whether the shooting was targeted or random. No arrests have been announced at this time.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
